Operation San Jose
Operation San Jose provides free cleft lip and palate repair to indigent children in Mexico, Central, and South America. These children might not ever receive corrections of their deformities due to the lack of facilities, medical staff, and funding in their native countries.
Dedicated health professionals from Operation San Jose have volunteered to provide this free surgical care for the past 24 years. The team provides all the necessary supplies, equipment, personnel, and medications needed to perform these surgeries. Lives of needy children in Latin America are changed due to the volunteers who donate their time and the donors whose contributions help ensure the continued success of this project. All proceeds benefit Operation San Jose Project. Operation San Jose is a board-designated fund of CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare

Our Mission
Since 1983, Operation San Jose Project has been providing free cleft lip and palate repair to indigent children in Mexico, Central, and South America. These children might not otherwise receive correction of their deformities due to a lack of facilities, medical staff, or funding. The Operation San Jose Team seeks to restore the dignity and self-esteem of these children. We believe that every child deserves to face the world with a smile!
Dedicated health professionals from Operation San Jose volunteer to provide this free surgical care. The Operation San Jose Team consists of four attending plastic surgeons, two senior residents, two anesthesiologists, a pediatrician, four surgical nurses, two recovery room nurses, and several volunteer helpers. Operation San Jose provides all the necessary supplies, equipment, medications, and personnel needed to perform these surgeries.
Operation San Jose serves a threefold purpose. First and foremost, the program provides medical and surgical intervention for children suffering from cleft lip and palate deformities. Secondly, Operation San Jose permits a cultural exchange of ideas and medical information. The Operation San Jose Team is always open to collaborate with our innovative hosts. Medical staff in underpriviledged and developing countries have the opportunity to learn advanced medical techniques. Each trip is always at the invitation of local medical authorities in the host country and serves to increase good will. Finally, this program provides experience for surgeons in training. Senior plastic surgery residents can perfect and refine their skills in facial reconstruciton under the direct supervision of an attending plastic surgeon. This program is not research dependent. Immediate results are brought about through the gift of surgical intervention.
Lives of needy children in Latin America are changed due to the volunteers who donate their time and the donors whose contributions help to ensure the continued success of this project.
